The White T-shirt Challenge is an attempt to raise much needed funds for children with learning disabilities in Devon and Cornwall. The aim of the challenge is to persuade/beg/ask as many celebrities as possible to sign white t-shirts which will then be raffled or auctioned to raise funds for Mill Ford Special School or Downham House .
Mill Ford Special School and Downham House provide education and support to some of the most disabled children in Plymouth, Devon and Cornwall. It is my belief that the children who use these services can have an excellent quality of life and a full life, with support. Support is essential, but also expensive (for example a special bed which would allow one child to take a more active part in lessons at Mill Ford School costs £2500). I have this vague dream of being able to supply the kids (or at least Mill Ford and Downham) with iPads as well as they are such fabulous (and relatively cheap) communication aids.
I’m not yet sure what to do with the slowly growing pile of white t-shirts. My original plan was to pass them onto Mill Ford and Downham House to raffle themselves. However, it’s occurred to me that if there’s enough support it might be possible to hold a special auction event (a ball perhaps?) and then split the proceeds between the two organisations. The thought of organising it makes my eyes water but if we manage to get enough t-shirts it could work really well.
